love after Love

The time will come when, with elation, you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the other's welcome, and say, sit here. Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself,
to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another,
who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life.
Poem 'Love after Love' by
Derek Walcott, Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature

This poem is so moving. It's speaking about being a friend to yourself. How's that going for you? The world beats us down and sometimes we tend to beat ourselves up. When was the last time you:
  • greeted yourself with a smile when you looked in the mirror?
  • enjoyed your own company?
  • feasted on your life?
In Christ, you are enough, so be a friend to yourself. Since it's clear that God loves you...Romans 5:8, Romans 8:37-39, Galatians 2:20, 1 John 3:1... love who God loves. You!
